Tony Caldwell has volunteered with Ronald McDonald House Charities Piedmont Triad® since 2014, when his son, William, was born. He’s partnered with Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity brothers for monthly volunteer activities at our House, where they’ve swept floors, cleaned windows, helped with luminaries, and cooked for our families. Everyone in the group is proud of their work for RMHCPT; Tony is particularly motivated to give back.
The Caldwell family’s first experience with our Ronald McDonald House® as program recipients was when William was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at the age of three. He was treated at Brenner Children’s Hospital where our Ronald McDonald Family Room® and the Ronald McDonald Hospitality Cart were resources for the whole family.
Fruit snacks are William’s favorite, and Tony recalls that every time the Hospitality Cart rolled around, our volunteers made sure they were available to him.
Like the luminaries Tony helped to assemble, his eyes light up as he describes the special efforts made for his son. Volunteers going the extra mile for the Caldwell family have truly meant a lot. Tony chuckles, recalling that the Cart had treats for him too! “I love Doritos – so I ate a lot of ‘em – a whole lot of ‘em,” he says. By volunteering and giving, Tony and his family express gratitude for their experiences. “We can see the great fruits that come with all the services and opportunities the House has. It just really aids in allowing you to focus on getting your child better.” Just as the small act of remembering a favorite snack has inspired nearly a decade of giving back, your gift of any amount can have a lasting impact on countless families served by our Ronald McDonald House.
