A “Home Away From Home”
Ronald McDonald House Charities® Piedmont Triad provides essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare. Our House is a “home away from home” located steps away from Atrium Health Levine Children’s Brenner Children’s Hospital, right down the road from Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, and close to other medical facilities, allowing quick accessibility to a child’s bedside.
Services Provided
- 36 bedrooms with private baths
- Communal kitchen with pantry items, fresh foods, and meals provided through community donations
- Living and play areas including an outdoor playground
- Linens, towels, and toiletries
- Family Support Services program including education, recreation, and referral services
- Resource Library, Computer, and Wi-Fi access
- Complimentary laundry rooms
- Secure facility with staff available onsite 24/7
- Knowledgeable, caring staff and volunteers whose main priority is our families
Eligibility
Guest families must live outside of Forsyth county and have a child 18 years old or younger who is receiving medical treatment in our community in order to be eligible to stay.
Exceptions to the eligibility standards apply, contact (336) 723-0228 to determine if you qualify.
Check-In
During check-in, a member of our Guest Services staff guides families through all paperwork, shows them the house, and answers any questions. Please ensure that each adult staying in the House has a photo ID on hand when checking in.
Check-in times are seven days a week:
Monday – Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Sunday: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
After-hours check-ins are available with advanced approval.
Parking
Parking is free, but limited. In order to ensure families have parking we ask that if you are visiting with a large group to carpool.
For families managing allergies, chronic conditions, medications or other medical needs, a little preparation can bring a lot of peace of mind. MedicAlert IDs can help communicate important health information when a child may not be able to speak for themselves. During MedicAlert Awareness Month, it’s a good reminder to make sure emergency information is current, caregivers know where to find it, and the people who spend time with your child know what they need to know.

There are moments no parent ever expects—when your child is too fragile to hold, but the need for comfort and connection is still there. Sometimes, that comfort comes on four paws. 🐾 For this dad, it came from Big Ben: a warm presence, a quiet companion, and something to hold during an incredibly difficult moment. On National Dog Day, we’re celebrating Big Ben and all of our therapy dogs for the remarkable way they seem to know when a family needs a little extra comfort, connection, or calm. Thanks to the hard work of many volunteers, families staying at our Ronald McDonald House not only come home to a nutritious meal, they often have lunches prepped and ready to take along to the hospital. It's one less thing families need to think about during stressful times. 🏠❤️

For us, it’s a family who can stay close when their child needs medical care. It’s a sibling who still gets time to play. It’s a volunteer packing lunches for a long hospital day. It’s a fresh meal waiting when a family comes back. It’s a community that cares for families it may never meet. A packed lunch can say a lot without saying a word. I’m thinking of you. I want you to have what you need. It’s the same love behind packing a school lunch with an encouraging note for our kids, and behind the lunches our volunteers prepare for families to take with them for long days at the hospital.
A college student visited Ronald McDonald House for a class project. He left inspired. After witnessing volunteers offer a warm welcome, a listening ear, and a sense of home to families facing the unimaginable, he wrote that the experience "opened my eyes to the beauty of humanity." A good book can't change a diagnosis. But it can make a hospital stay feel a little less scary. Every family who checks into our House receives a token for each child in their family to pick out a book from our book vending machine. It's a small tradition that often becomes one of the happy moments of their stay. Happy #NationalBookLoversDay to everyone who believes in the magic of a good story.

The kitchen is where normal happens. We're grateful for volunteers like our friends at The Warm Oven Project who take time to provide sweet tastes of home and normalcy for the families at our Ronald McDonald House. We love that this group bakes for us once a month and provides plenty of gluten free options, too! 🍪❤️
