Nine-year-old Bianca’s diagnosis of kidney failure made her a “frequent flyer” at our Ronald McDonald House and one of our “Kidney Kids”. Life was planned around her daily dialysis schedule and monthly appointments at Brenner Children’s Hospital. Bianca and her brothers did everything from homework to trick-or-treating at their “home away from home.”
All that changed with one late night phone call: a kidney was in-flight to Winston-Salem for Bianca. With no time to spare, the family rushed 150 miles from home for an immediate transplant surgery. Throughout their many visits, the Raines family never worried about staying close to Bianca and the care she needed. Bianca’s years of dialysis ended with cheerful refrains of “Happy New Kidney to You” ringing down our hallways and, most importantly, cake!
Our Ronald McDonald House hosts all kinds of celebrations – from graduations to lost teeth to birthday parties. The Raines family helped us roll out the first of a new kind of celebration: a new kidney party! Your support makes this kind of caring possible and we thank you.
